Organizational Announcement: Shenia Thompson

Dear team members,

Today, I am excited to announce Shenia Thompson, MBA, MSHM, as our new Administrator of Hospitality and Support Services, representing our top candidate across all interviewees following a broad national search. In this role, which is effective November 11, she will have oversight of all patient experience efforts within our University Medical Center, as well as various support services, including Food & Nutrition Services, Welcome Team, Parking & Transportation, Housekeeping Services, Volunteer Services, Hospitality House, Language Services, Patient and Equipment Transportation, Valet Services & Garage Operations, and Workplace Violence Coordinator.  Shenia also will partner with the University to provide support for safety and security.

For many of you, Shenia will be a familiar face. She steps into this position after spending nearly five years within HIT, where since December 2019 she has had oversight of Epic training, first as Manager, IT Clinical Training, and then as Director, IT Training. During her time within HIT, she led a number of pivotal efforts, including virtual training delivery during COVID-19, implementation of the Workday Learning Management System, Epic training for three Community Hospital transitions, new hire training across all UVA Health facilities, and much more.

Shenia obtained her undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University, where she majored in Computer Science and Engineering, and minored in African American Studies. She also attended Kennesaw State University where she obtained her Master of Business Administration. After serving more than 12 years in various leadership roles in both telecommunications and educational travel, Shenia went back to school, obtaining her Master of Science degree in Healthcare Management from Johns Hopkins University.

What stands out the most about Shenia is her passion for our patients’ experience and her leadership style, which exemplifies integrity, transparency, and excellence. In her new role, she is looking forward to delivering outcomes that matter most to our patients and team members. Located in Charlottesville, Shenia enjoys spending time reading, running, coaching cheerleading, and discovering new travel destinations with her two kids, Johnny and Phoenix.

Please join me in welcoming Shenia into her new role.
