Learn why "Mom loves having Erica Morris on her care team!"

UVA Health University Medical Center BEE Award Committee Vice Chair Allisha Shifflett, AEMT, and Jenny Ernest, Nursing Governance Coordinator, Nursing Professional Governance Office surprised Erica Morris, Certified Nurse Assistant, 3 East, with a BEE (Being Excellent Everyday) Award.

A patient's family member nominated Morris:

"My mom has been in the hospital for seven days. A bright spot in her day is having Erica Morris provide care, encouragement, and medical support!

"After seven days, mom is quite sore and Erica made it her mission to help her feel more comfortable. She located a support 'pillow' that provided lots of relief! She was even willing to 'make' one if she couldn't find one. It takes that extra step to find supportive measures that make a significant difference in mom's healing and progression toward going home.  

"Erica has been kind — initiating conversation with mom and encouraging her. While mom was not eager to have a shower, Erica talked her into it on the tail end of her shift. It didn't go unnoticed that Erica wasn't worried about her shift ending soon — she was willing to go the extra mile to support a patient.

"Similarly, mom was resistant to walk. But for Erica, she did it! Erica has a way of encouraging patients that pushes, but she does not over push. We know the benefit of mom getting up and walking and she'll do it for Erica!!  

"Erica embodies the highest qualities of a healthcare provider and my mom is better off because she is on her team! It warms our hearts to see a professional care about our mom and be willing to do whatever it takes for her to feel comfortable. Thank you!
