Data Privacy Week

Data Privacy Week (Jan. 26-30) is a global initiative observed each January that highlights the critical importance of protecting personal information in an increasingly digital world. At UVA Health, Data Privacy Week serves as a reminder that safeguarding data is essential to maintaining trust, privacy, and security.

According to the Pew Research Center, 79% of U.S. adults report being concerned about the way their data is being used by organizations. This concern is especially valid as it pertains to respecting and protecting sensitive patient data at UVA Health.

Health data is one of the most personal — and therefore most valuable and vulnerable — types of information. As digital systems, cloud platforms, and connected devices become more integrated into care delivery, the need for robust privacy practices has never been greater. Data Privacy Week reinforces the notion that protecting patient data is not just a regulatory requirement; it is a fundamental component of the quality care provided at UVA Health.

This week, take a brief moment to review the resources on the UVA Health Data Privacy Week page — there you can learn about everything from adjusting privacy settings on various websites and apps to getting a quick refresher on the General HIPAA Security Rules.

For UVA Health, Data Privacy Week is an opportunity to reaffirm a shared commitment: protecting the confidentiality, integrity, and security of every patient’s information — because privacy is a prerequisite for safe, compassionate, and trustworthy care.

Happy Data Privacy Week!
