Jose Garcia’s actions "went above and beyond expectations. We are deeply grateful for his professionalism ... and willingness to help during a critical moment." 

Congratulations to Jose Garcia, Materials Coordinator, Supply Chain Department, UVA Health Prince William Medical Center, on earning a BEE (Being Excellent Everyday) Award, which honors team members who work alongside our nurses to impact patients' experiences.

Supply Chain Operations Supervisor Kristopher White (pictured above, right) nominated Garcia, based on what Theresa Polk (pictured above, left), a team member associated with our Project SEARCH initiative, had shared about Garcia.

Helping Without Hesitation

Garcia, who has been with UVA Health for 10 years, saw someone in need and offered thoughtful, compassionate help well beyond the duties of his role. “I want to extend a sincere shoutout to Jose for his extraordinary support during a behavioral crisis involving an individual who experienced an acute episode and became physically dysregulated," writes White. "While initial staff were working to ensure the person’s safety and prevent injury, Jose recognized the urgency of the situation and immediately offered assistance.” 

“Even though responding to behavioral crises is not part of his normal responsibilities, Jose stepped in without hesitation. He helped staff maintain a safe environment and provided calm, reassuring communication to the person throughout the event. His presence and quick thinking were invaluable to support the safety of the individual and team members until the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and security personnel arrived to take over. What stood out even more was Jose’s compassion!” 

Continuous Care

Jose continued to display a level of kindness that shows his true character. “A few days later, Jose followed up to ask how the individual was doing, demonstrating genuine care and concern," describes White. "His actions went above and beyond expectations. We are deeply grateful for his professionalism, empathy, and willingness to help during a critical moment.”
