Stephen Pauley's behavior has a "direct and positive impact on team performance and overall morale." 

UVA Health Prince William Medical Center Respiratory Therapy Supervisor Kassidy Jacobs nominated Stephen Pauley, Respiratory Therapist, for a BEE Award for “his exceptional leadership and composure" during a CPR in progress on a pregnant patient.

‘Professionalism Under Pressure’

In this line of work, the wellbeing of our patients and our members can depend heavily on strong leadership. “In a situation that was high stress and emotionally charged for all teams involved, Steve demonstrated an outstanding ability to remain calm and supportive to the staff," describes Jacobs. "His presence helped create stability in a tragic situation, as he reminded everyone to remain calm and assured everyone the situation was under control.” 

“Beyond his clinical skill, Steve showed remarkable emotional intelligence by recognizing the stress levels of those around him and actively working to de-escalate tension and provide reassurance,” Jacobs continues. “Many providers and staff during the code have since reached out to mention Steve by name for his ability to navigate the situation and maintain professionalism under pressure. His behavior has a direct and positive impact on team performance and overall morale.”
