I’m pleased to share the latest episode of Beyond the Badge, our video series highlighting the people who make UVA Health such a remarkable place.

In this episode, I talk with Steven Zortman, who leads the diabetes education program at University Medical Center. He shares the very personal connection that led him to this work, how he helps patients feel empowered to manage their diabetes, and some of the technology changing diabetes care today.

We also find some time to talk about one of Steven's other passions: Batman. As he explains, helping people manage diabetes can sometimes require being a bit of a detective — and it turns out, superheroes can be useful teaching tools, too.
