Team Member Engagement Survey May 4-18
Every few years, UVA Health team members participate in confidential, system-wide surveying to help us understand how we’re progressing toward our goal of being a best place to work — a key priority in our 10-year strategic plan. The 2026 UVA Health Engagement Survey is May 4-18.
The survey, conducted by Press Ganey, includes team members from the University Medical Center, UVA Community Health (except physicians and APPs), UVA School of Medicine (staff), UVA Physicians Group (UPG), and the Claude Moore Health Sciences Library. In years between engagement surveys, we also use shorter pulse surveys to stay connected to team member feedback.
Every Voice Matters. Creating the best place to work is something we build together. Survey results directly inform the tools, support, and investments that help our teams thrive in their careers as well as in our collective mission of providing exceptional patient care. To help prepare for this important survey, please review the FAQs below:
1. How do I know which survey I am taking?
- UVA School of Medicine (SOM) faculty with a primary appointment in the SOM will participate in the Standpoint AAMC survey (April 7-May 15).
- UVA School of Nursing faculty and staff will participate in the AACN Leading Across Multidimensional Perspectives (LAMP) Culture and Climate Survey (April 1-May 15).
- UVA Community Health physicians and APPs do not take the Press Ganey Engagement survey.
- All other UVA Health team members, who joined the organization prior to March 2, 2026, including those employed with University Medical Center, UVA Community Health (except physicians and APPS), UVA School of Medicine (staff), UPG, and Claude Moore Health Sciences Library, will participate in the UVA Health Engagement Survey conducted by Press Ganey (May 4-18).
2. Is the survey confidential?
- Yes, responses are confidential. At no time does Press Ganey share data with UVA Health or any other client in a way that would directly connect you to your responses. Results are reported only in group summaries of no less than five team members, to help prevent individual responses from being identifiable.
3. How do I take the survey?
- On May 4, you will receive a personalized email invitation from noreply@surveys.pressganey.com. You can also access the survey by scanning a QR code promoted across the health system. If using the QR code, you’ll be asked to enter your user ID to access your survey. This does not affect confidentiality — it ensures responses are grouped correctly at the entity and department level.
4. How long will it take to complete the survey?
- The engagement survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. For RNs, please allocate additional time to complete a special Magnet® module. Many teams set aside dedicated time during work hours to ensure everyone has an opportunity to participate. You can exit the survey at any time and resume at a later time. Any responses will be saved.
5. What questions can I expect?
- This survey focuses on your overall employee experience, including teamwork, relationships with supervisors, and how valued and recognized you feel. It explores engagement and satisfaction, such as pride in the organization and meaningful work. It also covers organizational culture, including ethics, quality of care, inclusion, and alignment with strategic direction, along with support for growth and involvement in decisions. It is helpful to familiarize yourself with the key words used throughout the survey:
- Work Unit: The department/unit where you work on a regular basis.
- The person I report to: The person who directly oversees your role/work.
- Organization: The UVA Health entity where you primarily work/deliver services within (i.e., UPG, University Medical Center, UVA Community Health, UVA School of Medicine, or Claude Moore Health Sciences Library).
- Employees: The people who work within your organization.
- Senior Management: Includes roles such as the CEO, CNO, CMO, COO, Chief, or Dean within your respective entity.
6. In what languages will the survey be available?
- To ensure the survey is accessible to all our team members, UVA Community Health will offer the survey in Spanish and English. All other participating UVA Health entities will have the option to take the survey in Spanish, Dari, Arabic, and English.
7. Can I take the survey on my phone?
- Yes. The survey can be completed on a mobile device. However, for the best experience, we recommend using a browser such as Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.
8. How will the survey results be shared and used?
- The Engagement Survey will be administered from May 4-May 18. In June, results will be shared with senior leadership, followed by department- and unit-level results and action planning from June through August to translate feedback into meaningful improvements across the health system.
9. What if there are technical difficulties while I’m taking the survey?
- For tech support or questions regarding confidentiality, please contact Press Ganey’s Client Support Desk by email or by calling 1.800.849.2292 (select Option 1). Hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m. EST. Email responses are typically provided within 24-48 hours.
10. Who do I contact if I have general questions about surveying at UVA Health?
- Team members employed by UVA Community Health contact myuvachhr@uvahealth.org or call 703.369.8083. All other entities, please contact the University of Virginia’s AskHR by email at askHR@virginia.edu or by phone at 434.243.3344.
