Virtual Primary Care On Demand Launching May 11
The shortage of primary care services across our country and in Virginia is well known to UVA Health team members — we are all too familiar with Emergency Departments crowded with patients whose visits could have been prevented by routine primary care, and months-long waits for an initial visit with a primary care provider. This shortage affects not only the patients that we see, but also our loved ones and many of us personally.
As part of our strategic commitment to improving patient access and specifically to help address access to primary care in Virginia, on May 11 UVA Health will launch Virtual Primary Care On Demand. This new service will cover a full range of primary care needs, including:
- Long-term primary care, or an interim solution until care is established with an in-person primary care provider (PCP).
- Same-day and immediate care.
- Evening and weekend hours.
- See uvahealth.com for a complete list of primary care services.
“Everyone deserves access to quality primary care,” said Rebekah Compton, DNP, FNP-BC, MBA, Chief Operating Officer, UVA Physicians Group, and project leader. “Virtual Primary Care On Demand will make the same expert, compassionate care people expect from UVA Health available in a convenient, on-demand format, wherever they are in Virginia.”
Virtual Primary Care On Demand is the product of systemwide collaboration, with engagement from primary care leadership. It will “soft launch” to UVA employees (including the Academic Division and team members from all UVA Health entities, regardless of location or insurance plan) on May 11. Later this summer, a coordinated marketing campaign will engage patients statewide.
