The UVA Health APP Recognition Committee is proud to recognize Gary Jones as its latest APP spotlight for his outstanding leadership as a clinical nurse specialist in the Medical ICU.

Jones is a clinical nurse specialist in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU). Throughout his career, he has been a trusted clinical expert, educator, and advocate, helping to advance evidence-based practice while supporting the professional growth of nurses across UVA Health.

Known for his approachable leadership style, Jones creates a culture where nurses feel supported, respected, and empowered to ask questions. Whether mentoring a new nurse, coaching colleagues through complex clinical situations, or improving education and clinical protocols, he consistently prioritizes both patient safety and staff confidence.

Jones is a passionate advocate for continuous improvement. He works collaboratively with frontline staff to identify barriers to safe care, refine clinical workflows, and develop practical educational resources that make evidence-based practice easier to implement at the bedside. His attention to detail and commitment to excellence have strengthened nursing practice throughout the MICU and beyond.
