Forbes Ranks UVA Health Among Best Employers for Women

UVA Health has been rated the No. 1 employer for women among Virginia health systems and No. 4 among all Virginia employers by national business publication Forbes.

Nationally, UVA Health is ranked No. 20 among health systems and No. 120 overall on Forbes’s 2026 list of America’s Best Employers for Women.

“Hundreds of women across UVA Health provide leadership in roles ranging from patient care to research and education,” says Mitch Rosner, MD, MACP, FRCP, Chief Executive Officer of UVA Health and Executive Vice President for Health Affairs at the University of Virginia. “Their service is integral to our continued work to make UVA Health a great place to build a career.”

Working with market research firm Statista, Forbes surveyed more than 146,000 women, with responses from prior years factored into the ratings. Survey participants were asked if they would recommend both their current and former employers as well as any other employers they know well. Survey participants rated their current employers on several policies, including pay equity, career development, eldercare and childcare benefits, work-life balance and parental leave. Statista also reviewed the percentage of women in leadership positions at companies on the list.

“I am proud to work alongside so many accomplished women who make this a great place for our patients and our fellow team members,” says Tammy Snyder, MPH, Chief Executive Officer of UVA Health University Medical Center. “We want UVA Health to be a welcoming place for talented women to develop their skills as they serve our patients and our community.”

Making UVA Health a destination for talented people to build careers and a workplace of choice are key goals in the health system’s 10-year strategic plan. A prime example of UVA Health’s leadership development efforts includes the UVA Health Leadership Institute, which trains team members to become UVA Health’s next generation of leaders.
