As part of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, participate in free events from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 25 from Charlottesville to Northern Virginia.

At this touch-free, drop-off event — outside Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center, 1240 Lee St., across from the main entrance to UVA Health University Medical Center — residents can walk up or drive through to dispose unused or unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications with no questions asked. Injectable devices such as EpiPens, and sharp instruments such as needles and sharps, containers will not be accepted.

This event is sponsored by UVA Health Pharmacy, UVA Department of Anesthesiology’s Pain Management Division, UVA Office of Pain Management and Opioid Stewardship, and UVA Police Department.

Year-Round Medication Disposal Options

Central Virginia residents also can safely and securely dispose of unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications year-round at medication receptacles at eight UVA Health outpatient pharmacies:

• Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center, 1240 Lee St., Charlottesville

• Student Health, 550 Brandon Ave., Room 116, Charlottesville
• Bookstore, 400 Emmet St. South, Charlottesville
• Augusta, 57 Beam Lane, Suite 101, Fishersville
• Zion Crossroads, 1015 Spring Creek Parkway, Zion Crossroads

The year-round medication receptacles are for prescription and over-the-counter medications only. Illegal drugs and medical waste such as syringes and needles are not accepted. Pharmacy team members cannot handle any medications brought for disposal to the year-round disposal locations.

Also on Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., drop off unused medications for safe disposal at these Prescription Drug Take Back Day events:

Sharps containers or sharp instruments will not be accepted at these locations.
