UVA Health Culpeper Medical Center Nurse Earns DAISY Award for Consistent Positivity and Care
"What makes Kayla Jenkins truly stand out is the way she sees and values every team member. She listens, advocates, and makes decisions that are thoughtful and fair."
We’re thrilled to recognize Kayla Jenkins, RN, Clinical Unit Coordinator, as a UVA Health Culpeper Medical Center DAISY Award winner! Elle Dodson, Certified Nursing Assistant and Technical Assistant II (and former BEE Awardee!), nominated Jenkins, emphasizing her many exemplary qualities as a leader and a nurse.
The UVA Community Health Nursing Professional Governance Organization (NPGO) honors UVA Health Culpeper Medical Center nurses each quarter with a DAISY Award.
'The Heart of Our Unit'
Dodson notes her nomination is meant to provide “recognition of Kayla’s unwavering dedication, compassion, and exemplary leadership as our unit charge nurse. While much of her work may go unseen, those of us who work closely with Kayla know how deeply she invests in making sure our unit runs smoothly. She is the backbone of our team, always ensuring patient care is a top priority while supporting her colleagues with fairness, patience, and a positive attitude.”
“She steps in wherever she is needed, whether it's helping a new nurse learn the ropes, managing complex staffing needs, or addressing concerns with grace and professionalism. She leads by example, never asking anyone to do something she wouldn't do herself. Even in the most challenging moments, she remains calm, kind, and supportive.”
What truly makes Jenkins stand out? Answers Dodson: “The way Kayla sees and values every team member. She listens, advocates, and makes decisions that are thoughtful and fair.”
“Her behind-the-scenes work may not always get the spotlight, but it has an immeasurable impact on patient care and staff morale. Her humility, hard work, and genuine care make her the heart of our unit. We are incredibly fortunate to work alongside someone so committed to excellence, and I can think of no one more deserving of the DAISY Award than Kayla Jenkins!”
In Her Own Words
Jenkins, a nurse and UVA Health team member for six years, has goals of obtaining a BSN. What's her reaction to earning the honor? “Receiving the DAISY Award as a leader on my unit is both humbling and deeply meaningful. It’s a reminder that the small, everyday moments — supporting my team, advocating for our patients, and showing up with compassion — truly matter.”
Know a Fabulous Nurse?
"DAISY" stands for "Diseases Attacking the Immune System." The DAISY Award was established by The DAISY Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at the age of only 33 of an autoimmune disease. The Barnes Family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring, and compassion of his nurses — so they created this national award to thank nurses everywhere.
Patients or their family members; visitors; and team members can submit a nomination for a UVA Health Culpeper, Haymarket, or Prince William Medical Center, or Medical Group, nurse.
