Your Voice, Your Epic: Epic User Experience Survey Returns Oct. 1
Every day, clinicians across UVA Health rely on Epic to support patient care, coordinate teams, and access the information needed to make critical decisions. This fall, UVA Health HIT is asking clinicians to share their experiences to help shape the future of our electronic health record system.
The Epic User Experience Survey will be open Oct. 1 through Nov. 16 for team members who interact with patients and use Epic as part of their daily work. The survey is administered by KLAS, an independent healthcare technology research organization, and takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. Individual responses remain confidential and will not be shared with UVA Health without participant permission.
Why your feedback matters
UVA Health HIT is committed to providing reliable, secure technology that empowers clinicians with better tools, trustworthy information, and innovative solutions that improve patient care. Achieving that goal requires direct input from the people who use Epic every day.
“Clinician feedback helps us identify opportunities to streamline workflows, reduce administrative burden, strengthen user support, and ensure future technology investments align with the realities of patient care,” said Andrew Markowski, MD, MPH, Chief Medical Information Officer for UVA Health “Put more simply: your user experience helps guide our priorities.”
You asked, we answered
The survey is more than a measurement tool: it informs meaningful improvements across the organization.
Last year, nearly 1,740 clinicians participated in the survey, helping HIT gain significant insight into the Epic user experience and contributing to multiple initiatives designed to improve the Epic experience, including:
- Creation and expansion of clinician-led governance structures and design committees that help prioritize and accelerate Epic enhancements.
- Growth of AI-enabled documentation tools, including DAX, to help reduce documentation burden and improve efficiency. More than 469,000 patient encounters have been documented using AI-assisted tools to date.
- Improved interoperability that brings outside records, labs, notes, and imaging into Epic to support continuity of care.
- Expansion of Super User, Power User, and Epic personalization support programs.
- Infrastructure enhancements that improved Epic performance by increasing bandwidth for more than 1,000 workstations.
A partnership for continuous improvement
“Clinicians are working in an exceptionally demanding environment, and we know you may already feel survey fatigue,” noted Michelle Lardner, DNP, RN, NI-BC, UVA Health Chief Nursing Information Officer. “At the same time, feedback from frontline users is one of the most important ways we identify opportunities for improvement and ensure that our technology supports, rather than hinders, patient care.”
As UVA Health continues to invest in technology, innovation, and clinical excellence, clinician feedback will remain essential to creating tools and workflows that support providers and improve care for patients.
