UVA Health Virtual Primary Care on Demand now available for ages 5+
- Why It Matters: Families can now access UVA Health’s trusted primary care virtually for children ages 5 and older. It offers flexible, on-demand care for routine, urgent, and ongoing needs — without waiting for an in-person appointment.
- What You Can Do: Use it for same-day care or as a bridge until you establish an in-person PCP.
Get ready for Epic-integrated patient education this fall
- Why It Matters: UVA Health is moving to an Epic-integrated patient education source with WebMD Ignite on FHIR — improving consistency, readability, and patient engagement while simplifying clinician workflows and closing content gaps.

- Why It Matters: Accurate ECG workflows support patient safety and ensure results flow correctly into Epic. Missed steps — like missing orders or incorrect device use — can delay care and duplicate effort for clinical teams.
- What You Can Do: Read tip sheets in the ECG cart drawers and report issues as they arise. For orders/Epic issues, call the HIT Helpdesk at 4-5334. For ECG acquisition or cart issue, call Clinical Engineering at 4-2391.

June 23 Update | Your engagement survey insights inspire action
- Why It Matters: Your feedback is valuable. On July 13, the manager portal will open for University Medical Center, UVA School of Medicine staff, UPG, and Claude Moore Health Sciences Library, officially beginning the action-planning process.
- What You Can Do: During action planning, leaders will review your teams’ results. Be a part of the conversation to identify and set goals to drive improvements and strengthen our culture.
June 23 Update | Report BBF exposures to the Contact Center after hours, during downtime
- Why It Matters: PIC #1523 is being retired with the transition to Epic Secure Chat. Using the correct channel ensures rapid response and proper handling of blood and body fluid (BBF) exposures.
- What You Can Do: During regular business hours, continue to send an urgent message to the Secure Chat group UVMC Employee Blood and Body Fluid (BBF) Exposure. Outside Mon.–Fri., 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m., if you do not have Epic access, or during Epic downtime, call the Contact Center (4-2012 onsite/434.924.2012 offsite) to report BBF exposures.

June 9 Update | Keep UVA Health systems compliant – avoid TikTok and other prohibited apps
- Why It Matters: Virginia law bans ByteDance and Tencent apps on Commonwealth devices and networks. Because UVA and UVA Health resources are state property, these rules apply across all entities and locations.
- What You Can Do: Remove prohibited apps (e.g., TikTok, WeChat, CapCut) from UVA-issued devices and don’t access them on UVA networks. Personal use is allowed on personal devices, on private networks – but never for UVA Health work.

June 9 Update | Sign Up for Required GE Muse ECG Training, Go-Live June 16
- Why It Matters: As UVA Health transitions to the GE Muse System with Epic integration, replacing the Phillips Tracemaster ECG System, all ECG readers, reconcilers, and testers must complete training before using the new devices.
- What Can You Do: Learn more, determine if you are impacted, and register for training. Contact your supervisor if you have questions or need to sign up at a different time due to conflicts, such as planned leave.

- Why It Matters: Need to Know provides clear, timely, and actionable updates for care teams and leaders. It complements existing emails and newsletters, helping ensure important information is seen and shared consistently.
