Donate Blood: September Is National Sickle Cell Awareness Month
Battle Building, Quayle Center, First Floor | While donors of all backgrounds are needed, blood from Black and African American donors is three times more likely to be a direct antigen match for patients with sickle cell disease. - Tuesday, Sept. 15: 12:30.-5:30 p.m.

Operations
Impacts of Labor Day | Monday, Sept. 7
- All UVA Health clinics will be closed. (Dialysis clinics will remain open.)
- Team Member Gym will be closed.
- Parking and Transportation Modifications:
- University Transit Service bus and the Health System Fontaine and Northridge shuttle service will not operate Monday, Sept. 7.
- University Medical Center Courtesy Shuttle will operate on the weekend schedule, running every 60 minutes, 7:20 a.m. to 7:45 p.m.
- UtoCar will operate normally.
- Parking is available for team members in the South Garage on Crispell Drive and 11th Street Garage (Level D and above only) Monday, Sept. 7.
- University Transit Bus and Health System Transit shuttle will operate normally Tuesday, Sept. 8.

2026 EDS and Hypermobility Disorders PT/OT Symposium
Friday Oct. 23 | 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. | Sandridge Auditorium | This half-day continuing education program is designed to enhance rehabilitation professionals’ knowledge and practical skills in caring for individuals with Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS), hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSD), and related complex conditions. The program will feature expert presentations on evidence-based rehabilitation approaches, common clinical challenges, and the impact on treatment planning of comorbidities such as dysautonomia, chronic pain, fatigue, and activity intolerance. The program is intended for physiatrists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, therapy assistants, students, and other rehabilitation professionals seeking practical tools to improve care for patients with hypermobility-related disorders. At two summer events, UVA Health leaders honored University Medical Center, UVA School of Medicine, and UVA School of Nursing team members in a wide range of fields who've dedicated much or all of their careers to UVA Health for one to five decades.
